Drescher’s Restaurant is Waterbury CT’s oldest restaurant and it has a very interesting family tree. In the 1800s – long before any women’s movement fought for women’s rights – this restaurant was handed down to the women in the family. With each woman marrying and changing her name, the lineage was hard to follow. When Margaret designed this website – for the first time – in 2000, she created an animated family tree so that people might understand how generation after generation of women inherited this Waterbury landmark. She also photographed a magnificent mural that resides in one of Drescher’s dining alcoves and used it as the design for the home page. When Margaret redesigned the site in 2006, she was reluctant to remove the mural from the home page. The site still bears the mural – albeit a much smaller version – in the lower left corner. This website also contains a Flash-based slideshow of the historic move when Drescher’s was dragged from its original home on Harrison Alley to its current location on Leavenworth Street.
